About this location

The Swannanoa River is an important tributary to the French Broad River that is frequently used for recreation. The river originates above Black Mountain, North Carolina and flows through Swannanoa and the historic Biltmore Village and Biltmore Estate before entering the French Broad River. Prior to Hurricane Helene, Charles D. Owen Park was one of the most popular recreational areas along the river, as many students and members of the public swim, hike, and fish along the trail. Due to the destruction from Hurricane Helene, the park remains closed until further notice. Samples are still being collected here in collaborative effort between MountainTrue and NCDEQ. NCDEQ takes samples on Mondays. MountainTrue takes samples on Wednesdays.
