The Swannanoa River at Azalea Recreation Area in East Asheville provides community river access adjacent to the soccer fields and park facilities. The Swannanoa drains the Black Mountain and Swannanoa Valley corridor before flowing through Asheville and entering the French Broad River. This monitoring site captures water quality in the lower Swannanoa as it passes through the developed East Asheville corridor. Samples are collected as part of the MountainTrue and NCDEQ collaborative monitoring program.
